Breakin' Ballet is an all styles dance duo based out of Kalamazoo, Mi, under the direction of Joy Morris-Burton (ballet, jazz, contemporary, acro, and hip hop dancer/choreographer) and Aerick Burton (breaker, artist, and director). The company aims to bring stories of the human experience to it's audience and bring awareness to the artistry of a multitude of dance genres.

Breakin' Ballet All-Styles Dance and Performance Lab, is an opportunity to learn all-styles dance routines in 15 weeks and perform the newest Breakin' Ballet work on December 19th, 2026 at Dormouse Theatre in Kalamazoo, MI for Winter Fair 2026.
Join us for 15 weeks of dance at Move with Joy! This all styles dance class is a great way to train, gain performance experience, improve your dance skills and evolve your artistry as a dancers.

Why Breaking and Ballet? Breaking and street dance are all about teaching each other and growing from where you are. We aspire to achieve the same inclusive environment within our company and to our audience. Ballet is a structured style that many dance forms draw from and while we also build on many of ballet's physical techniques within our movement, we allow space for all movement styles, and truly see all forms of dance as equally informative and important to our creative projects. No one is expected to look, dress or dance like anyone else in the company. Dancers in the company are embraced as they are and all styles present, will have a place to be represented, from breaking to ballet, and everything in between. We support dancers finding a balance within self care and hard work. With dedication in training, we believe any desired movements are achievable, as we teach and learn from each other. As an all styles company, this is a place for dancers to expand and widen their dance vocabulary. We will explore dance in a multitude of styles and unique expressions. Dancers of any style are encouraged to join. Dedication and passion for dance, respect for self and other, and openness to learning are the only requirements. We value, the expression of each dancer and cultivate an environment of acceptance, no matter where each dancer is in their dance and life journey. Through movement, expression and acceptance we find beauty and joy in each moment and we wish to share that joy and many other aspects of the human experience with our audience. Breakin' Ballet exists for anyone with a passion to dance.
Breakin' Ballet All-Styles Dance Class is available for a $10 drop-in from January through May 2026 at Move With Joy on Thursdays at 7:15pm. Dance Performance Lab will resume on Thursdays, starting September 3rd, 2026. Training in lyrical ballet and pointe is also available with Joy on Mondays from 6-7:30pm ongoing throughout the year. Breakdance training with Aerick is also available throughout the year on Mondays from 7:30-8:30pm. Dancers who attend consistently will have performance opportunities with the Breakin' Ballet Community Dance Project twice a year.
